AGES: 6TH - 9TH GRADE
Lois Lowry brings a brand-new dystopian novel reminescent of The Giver for a new generation of middle grade readers. Gone is the idea of lost memories. A world where only scientific advancement rules.
When an illegal book is found, a young boy, Theo, can't resist figuring out a way to insert himself into the middle of the story. The problem is, the story he's put himself in is Moby Dick, and now his life is in danger. Meanwhile, at home, Theo's family is desperately trying to figure out what happened to their missing son. His twin sister is devastated over his disappearance until their 135-year-old neighbor gives her a mysterious key that unlocks a hidden door holding the first step to the answers to Theo's disappearance,
HEADS UP - A field trip is taken to a museum where a book is on display entitled The Insemination of Evil. Kids laugh about the title since insemination typically refers to the making of babies.
In the end, a prayer is lifted up to an unspecified god.
