FLIGHT: A STORY OF SEEKING REFUGE

FLIGHT by Alan Gratz
Flight, Alan Gratz's newest release, is a 75-page novella originally written as part of his book, Two Degrees. Realizing how long Two Degrees was becoming, he pulled this part of the story out setting it aside to publish as its own story.
Flight is the story of Daniela Lopez (Dani) and her family as they flee their beloved country of Honduras for two reasons. First, a change in the climate ends up causing their livelihood, their coffee trees, to die, and second, Dani's mother witnesses a murder. The whole family is now in grave danger. Deciding that their only option is to flee to the United States, they begin the trek towards Mexico A terrible mistake ends up separating the family. Dani and her younger brother, Carlos, find themselves on a perilous journey wondering if they'll make it out alive.
Based on events that some immigrants do encounter on their journey to the United States, this story is definitely a tug-at-the-heart-strings, high action read. However, it is a controversial read due to the intense emotions surrounding the topic of immigration in the United States.
