The Girls in the Stilt House by Kelly Mustian will suck you in as surely as the Mississippi swamp the story is set in! I had a hard time putting this one down! Ada and Matilda are two girls coming from different sides of the Trace but with equally difficult situations. Ada's alcoholic father is abusive which can mean death. Matilda knows secrets about bootleggers and murders that have been committed in the area. One dark night, the saving of one by the other forges a trust and dependency on each other. Hopefully, that will lead to one day escaping the horrors they have both experienced.
