Squirreled Away is Book 1 in The Dead Sea Squirrels series by Mike Nawrocki (Veggie Tales co-creator). This fun, early chapter book (think Magic Treehouse or Sophie Mouse length) takes kids on an adventure with Michael and Justin who are on an archeological dig with Michael's Dad. Cleverly written with a good dose of humor (they discover petrified squirrels in sea salt), this book deals directly with the act of disobedience and dangerous situations that can occur from not obeying. It is a book that can be a great bridge to important discussions for parents to have with their kids. Be sure and see the end notes where some great info is given about the Dead Sea Scrolls. Oh, by the way, the squirrels may not be as petrified as Michael thought!
