Thanksgiving in the Woods by Phyllis Alsdurf is a picture book based on a true Thanksgiving dinner event that happens every year in Upstate New York that's a little different from the traditional gathering. This one is hosted outside in the middle of the woods. That's right, Upstate New York outside for Thanksgiving! Now, this is so completely up my alley that when my husband read the picture book he said, "Don't even think about it!" ( I have been known to host my kids' birthday parties in the middle of the woods!) Can you imagine? Long tables decorated, bonfires lit for warmth, neighbors bringing steaming hot food! I can! Makes me feel positively pilgrimish.

Anyway, this fun picture book is a great read as we begin thinking about gathering together with neighbors and loved ones and counting our blessings!
