TALES FROM MUGGLESWICK WOOD by Vicky Cowie. Illustrated by Charlie Mackesy
"In the north-east of England,
the great British outdoors,
nestles MUGGLESWICK WOOD,
wrapped in thick purple moors.
Near the ruin of a priory,
there lies fields stocked with sheep,
and a long winding river
runs clear, pure, and deep.
There's a church in the village,
and stone houses within-
It's an enchanting place
for our tales to begin...."
Thus begins the bedtime stories of Muggleswick Wood.
Grandma has come to visit and five cousins can't wait for their turn to be tucked in and to hear a goodnight tale. Grandma's tales are the best with gnomes, fairies, May bugs, brownies, moles, and kelpies. These sweet, simple tales are told in rhyming verse and are a fun way to close the day.
HEADS UP- These tales deal with mythical creatures and have a small amount of magic in them. Think of them as being in the same vein as fairy tales.
