This wonderful picture book preforms three valuable jobs. First, it's a story about a baby sea turtle (hatchling), and really, who can resist a story about such an adorable creature especially since hatching season is right around the corner (August and September)? Second, it's set on the beach, so if your heading out on vacation, it's a great read aloud to consider. Third, and I would add most importantly, it deals with the topic of overcoming fear.

The story opens with Nellie, a newly hatched sea turtle, watching all of her sisters and brothers bravely marching off towards the ocean for their first swim. Nellie becomes frightened and overwhelmed by the size and power of the waves that are before her. With every glance and every thing that she tries, it feels more and more impossible to overcome. That is until she realizes that there is only one way home, and that is to give it a go and just jump in the water. That's when the joy of overcoming sets in!
