WINGING IT by Megan Wagner Lloyd and Michelle Mee Nutter
WINGING It is the story of Luna who is very happily settled in California with her friends and her life. When her dad announces that they are moving to Washington D.C. due to a job change, Luna struggles with the idea even though it will put her closer to her grandmother. After all, this grandmother (from her mother's side) has never been actively involved in her life. Not even when her mother passed away. But, there's a huge part of Luna's mother's life that Luna has never been able to experience or enjoy: her love of nature. It's just possible that spending some time with her grandmother will help her be able to connect with her mother in a new way.
Overall this story is a great read about a young girl who desires to appreciate the things her mother did. I always love a story where children get out in nature and learn to appreciate the wonder and beauty of it.
HEADS UP- Luna's grandmother's neighbors are a married lesbian couple that have children. They pop into the story in a couple of places. It addresses the fact that the kids call one mommy and one mama.
